CARN BREA LULLABY

Lyrics by Avril Nicholls and music by Claire Ingleheart

. . . .

Sleep little babe ‘neath the hill of Carn Brea,

Rest, rocked in the cradle of love.

Stars shine above you to light up the way,

Sleep darling, sleep ‘neath the hill of Carn Brea

Angels smile on you, keep dark clouds away,

Sing lullabies gentle and sweet.

Sleep then my babe till the dawn of the day,

Sleep darling, sleep ‘neath the hill of Carn Brea

Moonlight by night and bright sunbeams by day

Shine down on your cradle of love.

Rest now in the moonbeams, the sun’s golden ray,

Sleep darling, sleep ‘neath the hill of Carn Brea

Sleep little babe ‘neath the hill of Carn Brea,

Spring flowers and heather your bed,

Soft is your blanket of blossom in May,

Sleep little babe ‘neath the hill of Carn Brea

. . . .

Pat Ince was matron of the Redruth Maternity Hospital. She told us about her experience of witnessing the grief of bereaved parents of stillborn babies or babies who died shortly after birth. She pressed for there to be a memorial in the graveyard for these tiny babies and for many years there were dedication services at St Euny. There are always flowers and toys here…
